Untamed Baby Conure escapes! <Later rescued>

Postby Ashwin1224 » Sun Sep 18, 2011 4:04 am

Well today was just another sunday morning for me and my :sun: mojo.

I woke up to after 2 or 3 morning vocals by him. Got him out of his cage in sometime. We had breakfast together and I went on to do morning chores. He usually stays outside his cage when I am home, even though i am not in the room. There are windows and a balcony, but all are shut tight when he is out. But today, the maid( who usually does not clean the room properly) decided to clean the balcony  . She entered the room but didnt notice mojo was out, I wasnt there to warn her....

:violin:

Even though He is clipped, he was able to fly onto a tree and sat on branch almost 3 stories high. I spent the next hour looking for him. I knew he was there somewhere. When everything else failed ( luring him with seeds, calling him, playing youtube on full blast with a Conure Vocalization video) I climbed the tree

It was a really, really scary thing to do.But i was lucky I was almost a chimp when I was a kid , so i knew how To climb.Still Catching an untamed Sun, clinging on to a branch, 30 feet from the ground sucks!

But eventually, I got him. Now the neighbors know I have a conure, and its quite unusual for them to see a yellow parrot. They are used to seeing :irn: , and most of them have one in there house. but they are never treated like a parrot should be treated and everyone is surprized now, seeing me endanger my life for my parrot. Now he is back in his cage, hanging from a perch upside down.It seems he has already forgotten the whole episode

Wow, luckily you and your parrot are both okay after this. Glad you found the bird and were able to get him out of the tree.

This is unfortunately what happens when you have a parrot in a house with other people who can make mistakes and unintentionally risk your bird's life. For various reasons... It's not "theirs", they're not used to having one around them so they forget, they're not going to have concerns for the bird on their mind all the time etc. Hopefully you can come up with some strategies to prevent this from happening again.

Even I wonder how did I did that, when I look at the tree now. Maybe it was coz Mojo is soo awesome!

And now I have made it a point that he comes out only when I am in the room. The door to the balcony is gonna get heavy curtains and the windows get a wire mesh. He dosnt bother about the other door so its gonna be unchanged, and even if he does get out of the room into the hall, it wont be a problem[theres no way he can use an elevator  ]

Don't make life drap for him. He didn't do anything wrong.

Put wire mesh on the door and threaten the hell out of th maid. You can even put a sign on the door saying "you let the bird out - you die".

the wire mesh I am planning is pretty thin, more like a mosquito net but made of iron. I dont think he ll make out the difference between mesh-less and mesh(ed) windows.

The maid has been royally fired, this was the second time she caused problems. She had once let a duck out of the main gate, he was found later among heavy traffic.

I'm relieved your little guy is okay, he needs you! And that you're taking steps to prevent this from happening again.
