Clicker Training Assistant

Postby Naurthon » Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:10 am

Last weekend I hung fir cones in my boys' cages, thinking they would love to chew them to pieces. After several days, none of them have touched the cones and Dante actually seemed frightened of the cone. To try to reduce his fear, I put him on the training stand today with a cone nearby and used the clicker and target method to persuade him to get closer to the cone and eventually to touch it. After about 15 minutes I was able to get him to "touch the cone" (just barely!) on command, so I counted that as a success.

The funny bit, though, was Nikko, who was watching from his cage nearby. Every time I told Dante "target!" Nikko would make a perfect imitation of the clicker sound!
