How did you pick your parrots name?

Postby paper_lantern » Tue Nov 01, 2011 12:01 pm

I think it would be fun to hear how everybody came up with their bird's name. My bird is named Furbie, and it wasn't me who picked out the name.

I called my mother one day to tell her how I was getting a parrot, and she knew that I had been wanting one and researching different types of parrots for about two years. I also mentioned how I didn't pick a name yet and she said "did you think about naming him Furbie?" I asked her why, since its an unusual name, and she said;

"When you were eight years old you wanted a Furbie toy more than anything in the world, when I got you one for your birthday you turned bright red, you were so excited you started crying."

So I looked up Furbies...they were these electronic toys that looked like a cross between an owl and a Gremlin. They could talk and interact with each other, etc.

I think it fits my baby perfectly =)
"She was not quite what you would call refined. She was not quite what you would call unrefined. She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot." - Mark Twain

I named Mr. Crackers because I thought it was a funny name. That's really about it

:pied: Sweetie was easy. Everyone called her the little sweetie.
:pied: Lemone', because he was lemon colored.
:greycockatiel: Shadow has more gray in contrast to the yellow ones.
:greycockatiel: Twinkle came last. She is all gray and not as pretty so I gave her a really pretty name.
:greycockatiel: :greycockatiel: Tommy and Tammy were named by Rachel.
:swaying: :swaying: Tweetle Dee & Tweetle Dumb because it took me a while to tell them apart.

My GCC came with the name Prince. It's not in me to call animals by royalty so we renamed him to "Luo Shuo", which is Mandarin for a combination of something akin to: fussy, loud, annoying, talkative, wordy, irrelavant, arrogant. All in one. Which he is.

Phoenix because in Chinese tradition the phoenix gave birth to the the world. It is the symbol of the female whereas the dragon is of the male. And in western tradition it's obviously associated with fire and rebirth. So, since she's a Sun conure (fire colored), and since they start out ugly, and also since she is female (theoretically), she was named Phoenix.

We got our green cheek conure first and he did not have name for a few days. On the first Sunday that we had him we also had a big Sunday meal with friends and family. We decided to all write down a name and then have a group vote and then he would be named what won (second place got his middle name). On of the names was Oliver, and it was taken off of the BBC show topgear where one of the hosts named a car "Oliver". Well, Oliver won and Seamus came in 2nd, so our first little guy is Oliver Seamus...or Ollie for short.

Well, once we started calling him Ollie, I told my wife that if we ever got a second bird we would HAVE to name him Stanley...after the 1930's comedy duo Luarel and Hardy. Well, about 1 year later I was at a pet store buying food and puppy treats when I saw this beuatiful Sun Conure and I had to gring him home, so that is how he became Stanley. My wife decided that since he was so Tropical looking (whatever that means) that his middle name should be Gilligan after the mate off Gilligans Island!LOL

I think that our names are alittle outlandish, but we always name animals human names. I had a dog named Nikki (14.5 years old), another dog named Ralph (11 years old), a tiel named Jake (15 years old) and a budgie named Ned (3 years old). Only Ralph and Jake are still with us and they are both my daughters so when she moved out they went with her, but they visit often
Stanley the Sun Conure :sun:
Ollie the Green Cheek Conure :gcc:
Stan and Ollie the great comedy duo, always making me chuckle!!

Since my first Half Moon Conure had a unique name, Munchy, I wanted my new bird to have the same. Before I picked him up I was thinking Flower from the Walt Disney movie Bambi. But when I met him he just didn't seem like a flower. So I was stumped. After awhile I typed in verdant green in the computer and a site came up with Disney in the title. So since Disney is a strong and friendly name and since Flower was originally going to be his name and it is from a Disney movie and since it came up when I typed in verdant green which he is.... Disney was it.

my moustache parkeet was badly mistreated. the previous owners were incredibly cruel to him.
and so, now it has a HUGE fear of humans. PLUS its around 3 years.

but i still have hope that we'l get to be friends... one day... :pirate:
that is my hope. :violin:
so i named him "kiboo"
(kiboo means "hope" in Japanese)
love + patience + care + consistency= a feathered friend. ^__^

Jetty came with his name; I have no idea where the previous owner came up with it.
Jetty-bird, jadey-bird, and Big Green Thing are all his nicknames.

If your going with nicknames: :amazon: Rambo is Pickle Boy. Other than being green I don't know how that happened. :amazon2: Myrtle (this icon does not fit her) is The Buzzard right now because she keeps buzzing us.
