Well, We first started out with a African grey who died only 14 weeks old from a problem to his lungs :( We had him named Jack, because it sounds so cute and powerfull at the same time, Jackey-boy! Eventhough we only had him for 2 weeks, I was devistated.
Then, after a few months we got ourselfs a male Eclectus and we named him Phoenix. Not for its colour obviously but because Phoenix birds cant really die. When they die, they rise from the ashes and so they live on forever, like I would want for my Phoenix. And also because every parrot in the Netherlands were I live is called: Coco, Karel, Rico etc so we wanted something different.
And then we got ourselfs another male Eclectus and wanted something that would go with Phoenix.
A Phantom is something thats already dead and therefor cant die so that kinda fits, and it sounds nice together haha.

Chico, a hand reared Eclectus was already named by his first foster parent. I inherited him from my Ex and daughter when they moved back east to PA and only had room and time for two of their flock. They had care of him for the last five years. They believe he is 20 years old. The Ex took in several rescue parrots. Chico was one and was a mess. Now he is beautifully feathered.

I once had several re-homed wild caught parrots many years ago that I had named. There was Gandalf the African Grey Temneh and Sinbad the Senegal. Gandalf the Grey was named after the wizard. Senegal is an island off of Africa and this brought to mind pirates and sailing, hence Sinbad the sailor.

When we had decided on a Senegal for our new bird, we thought that it would be fitting to choose an african name for her (given her heritage). We decided on Kali, which apparently means Energetic (one of the most common traits we found in researching the species). Had Kali been a male we were going to go with Romeo (I can't even remember why, aside for it being the phonetic word for the letter R). The african name worked out best, since her mother was a wild caught Senegal many years ago. She definitely has that wild streak to her at times.

As for my love birds, they came to me second hand without names (just collectively refered to as birds). They are both males sharing a cage, with one being a peach faced and the other a more common red colour. Somehow Bert and Ernie seemed to fit the best.

My first bird, a :budgie: I named Nerine (spider lily) because I wanted to name her after a flower without settling for something standard like Lily or Rose.

Logan, was a rescue, so he came with his name. It suited him though. It was dignified--a name fit for a little gentleman like him.

Conrad's name is, by far, my favorite. Not many people have fond memories of Joseph Conrad's novel, Heart of Darkness. Most people had to suffer through it in high school. I had the benefit of hearing it read out loud, and I thought it was some of the most beautiful writing ever penned. Further more, the novel describes the oppression of Africa by Europeans. It's a way to remember...

My brown headed parrot Jimmy was a rescue and that was his given name. I thought "Jimmy" was an adorable name for a bird.

Then a few months later we adopted a re-homed green cheek conure. His first owner named him Bubba, which I thought was somewhat odd given that this was in Massachusetts.

So... Now I have Jimmy and Bubba... Which sounds pretty country... :P

Jacko was a rescue and came with her name, I *thought* about renaming her (especially after I found out she was a girl) but...well...she's just such a Jacko. She loves saying her name (Jaaaaccko, JacKO....Jaaacckooooooo....depending on how she feels like pronouncing it at the time :P). Plus in many different languages a 'jaco' is a grey.

Sully the tiel was named for the lead singer of Godsmack because he loved to hear their music.

Altair was a linnie, the named is arabic and actually means bird/flyer and is the name of a star as well.
