:jenday: Mango is my Jenday Conure. I named her for a few things, the first being her color (similar to a mango!), the second, it was a name for both genders, just in case. ;) And finally, my previous two birds (both tiels) went by Apple :greycockatiel: and Peach :pied:, based on the color of the little circles on their cheeks. :D I wanted to stick to the fruit theme in remembrance of them, and it seemed to fit! The runner up name was Papaya. :P

As for nicknames...Mango goes as Sassy, Puffs, and "that Evil Thing" for obvious reasons, and variations of her name such as Mangatron (my brother loves transformers!), Mangs, and Mangotang.

I actually had two or three names lined up long before I purchased my baby.
Yoda (being small and green)
Dobby (small but wilful house elf from harry potter) and
Alf ( a cat eating TV character I grew up with)

But none of these names seemed to stick when I actually met my little guy.

And one day while playing with him the name of a cartoon character I used to watch popped into my head and it stuck …so there it was Roftie was names. :senegal:

Indiana, aka Indy, for Indiana jones, since the character was always getting in all sorts of trouble, fits my birdie.

My Senegal is a rescue, so I had no choice. His name is BiBi, but I call him "Beebster" and last month he started calling himself Beebster, mixing it up with "hi Beebster", "the Beebster", and when he screeches, he reprimands himself by saying, "Beebster! Be quiet!"

My parrotlet: I got her the day she was weaned. I named her Katie, and before she reached puberty, she loved me, but now only has eyes for my sons and hubby. She is jilted by my husband because...

He has a pineapple green cheek conure named Zoe, whom is named after our friend's daughter who is a radiant child, full of energy and charm and silliness. My hubby's conure is his "daughter" since we have two boys. She has him wrapped around his finger, but comes to me when she needs a good pin feather scritching, because I am the ultimate head-petter! Even Katie comes to me for head pets, but then nips me when she's done, because she hates me now ):

WikiLeaks, or Wiki for short - we bandied about all sorts of unusual names and liked the way it sounded. We've never been into conventional names - our (dearly missed) previous budgie was named Cheesy Poof after South Park's cheesy snack treak.

The only one I have had to name in recent years is the baby cockatiel we kept because Twinkle died. I tried all sorts of names and came up with Bindi. It is probably spelled wrong. I named her after Steve Erwins daughter who was named after his favorite dog. I think it means little girl.

:irn: Alliah didn't have a name when I got her, so in looking up names according to a baby names database "Aliah" is hebrew meaning to ascend or go up.. Alliah is my own spelling derivation from that.
:macaw: Chica's original name was "Bluey"... which just didn't seem to fit her. I named her "Chiquita" because I thought it was cute but just call her "Chica" since it's really easy to say & get all excited about. (and she gets all squeaky faced and excited when i call her that)

I named her ROXY after Roxette (the Swedish pop singer), they have similar hair styles and "you know she a little bit dangerous"

So my bird has two names: her professional name and her actual name.

Her professional name, Luna, is the name I tell a lot of people when they ask and it's the name that I've used on the forums while I've been posting.

There's a funny story behind her *actual* name. While I was talking to breeders, I narrowed down my choice to two. One had a bird named Tango, and the other had an unnamed bird. I wanted to be able to talk about my decision with people while I was trying to figure things out, so I decided to come up with a random name for the second bird as a placeholder. I have a strange sense of humor, and decided to call her Scrubby Bubbles; fully intending on giving her a real name if I bought her.

Well, Scrubby Bubbles ended up being the bird I chose. Unfortunately, by the time I decided Luna was a good name, I had used Scrubby Bubbles so much that she started to say it on occasion. Up until now, I thought she was trying to say "Night, night" to tell me it's time for her to go to bed... but it's pretty clear now that she's actually saying "Scrubby."

Oh well :)
