When I got my Senegal, Kitoko, or Kito for short, my husband and I decided that we wanted to give our girl a person name, as is our custom in our house (our cat's name is Arthur, and that is KING Arthur to you!). I wanted to find something unique, so I began looking up baby names online.I settled into the African section, since that's where these beautiful birds originate from, and settled on her name, which means "Beautiful" in Nigerian.

We are getting CAG siblings this weekend and I promised my husband that he could name the girl, but I think I'm going with Teo for the boy, which means "gift". :)

So, Alaska was named Cookie when I got her, which I thought a bit unpersonal actually, so I decided I'd change it.
Alaska Young is a character from John Green's book Looking for Alaska. I thought my little Senegal to be very.. special - just like this Alaska Young. (Also, it went quite well with my previous book-character-name-theme here, hehe.)

I still occasionally call her Cookie, though I always write Alaska, and I think she's pretty used to Alaska by now.

"Tiki" is a really common bird name, but it's also a Japanese name, and it sounds so cute and delicate, like my own birdie. So, there ya go. (As a huge Zelda fan, I considered naming her "Link" because she is so green... but it's not really a girl's name, ya know?)

I hadn't even found my Cockatiel before choosing a name for it. I now have a sweet Whiteface Cockatiel who I've named Captain :) I'm not sure exactly why I chose the name, it may be because after watching Avengers Assemble, Captain America started to be my favourite character xD though I usually call him nibbler as he nibbles everything in site!

Our african grey allready had the name Pim, wich is a real common dutch name.
Then we bought our senegal and because it was supposed to be our daughters parrot (she is only 7, so supposed because she can't take the whole responsibillity) and she allready had a name for her, Kimmy. (so Pim and Kim lol)
Soon we are going to have a young blue and yellow macaw and we were thinking about a name.
Our grey is calling the cat from his previous owners, when he calles for our cat, eventhough he knowes her name to.
So my daughter said, why not give him that name.
So soon we can welcome Dribble in to our home. (in dutch Dribbel)
So our african grey can call him allreay hahahah lol

Was already named "Oscar" from re-home situation and he proudly says "Im Oscar" ....hard to change that LOL I was told by people I bought Oscar from that they named him after Oscar the Grouch cause he could get nippy/biting at times. Oscar remains his name but the behaviour has been trained out of him since.

i never picked any of my birds names actually! Stanley, my male parrotlet, was named by the breeder, and i could never think of a different name and found that it suited him. Vergil just happened to be the name tag that the store i work at put on his price tag, and after i got his DNA test results, decided i liked it. I got Emmy, my female parrotlet, from someone who could no longer care for her and i also did not change her name. Louie, my younger senegal, was named by my boyfriend

I have always been a fan of human names for animals. When I was researching Green Cheeks I was dead set on naming my future one Richie. However, when I brought home my bundle of feathers he did not seem like a Richie. After about an hour of brainstorming, my sister said, "what about Doug." That was it! Douglas! He was definitely a Douglas! The other names came easily to me. My Lutina parakeet was named after my Grandmother whom I never met but she apparently was the nicest woman and she also loved birds. My Grey, Charlie, came with that name. I so badly wanted to change it because I have a nephew named charlie and because Charlie the bird is actually a girl. I felt bad though because she had that name for 16 years and I didn't want to confuse her. And Gretta, well she just seemed like a Gretta! :gcc: :gray: :budgie: :swaying:
