Fishing Braid Causes Distress.

Postby Fiona&Tweety » Sun Feb 05, 2012 6:09 am

Recently while driving along through a forest, next to the Murray River, we came across a Sulphur Crested Cocky that was very distressed. It was tangled up in heaps of fishing line and the line was also tangled in a pile of sticks. The line was wrapped around one of the cockys legs. The leg was cut and swollen but did not look infected.
We covered the birds head with a towel and then cut away most of the line. Once the cocky was free it bit me and flew off with its flock. I have been worried about it because we didn't manage to get all of the braid from around the leg. I'm hoping the bird was able to pick off the last of it.
Please remind any fisher friends to always dispose of all fishing waste carefully. The bird was very distressed and may not survive but it was good to see it fly off with it's flock.

That's horrifying!
Thank goodness you found it when you did and hopefully the bird will survive!
