Welcome home!

Postby brfussne » Mon Mar 12, 2012 4:37 pm

I just wanted to share some photos of Kismet. =) I brought her home last Tuesday night and have been meaning to upload some photos of her and her cage.

Here is her cage. It is a A&E Dometop cage 32"x23"x63".

I still need to upload some new photos of her cage now that it has plenty of toys and perches. =)

She is beautiful. You two will have a lot of fun together.

Somewhere in this forum I think I read not to give them spinach.

Thank you Glass Onion! I got it from the website you always promote! Mysafebirdstore.com! :D I figured my Caique would love the additional space a dometop provides since they are notorious for climbing/hanging upside down.

It was Michael who said not to feed spinach due to it's calcium interference. However, the oxalic acid in the spinach only prevents a *part* of the spinach's calcium from being absorbed, and it does not do anything to any other calcium sources. But spinach has many other nutrient benefits besides calcium that there is no reason to avoid it. It's best to eat a LARGE variety of foods, human or bird.

Read this for a longer thing of what I explained:

Kismet is adorable!

We were looking into getting a caique when searching for a friend for Stitch, and was in contact with an owner of one for adoption, but the deal fell through (he just wanted to get rid of the bird, fast).

Thank you CML! :) I'm sorry your deal fell through with the Caique, but I'm glad you found Stich. I was reading some information on Caiques and they are also known as "monkey parrots" and after I got to thinking she does sound exactly like a monkey sometimes!! Haha! She is such a clown!
