The Grocery Store Affair

Postby SkidRowSennie » Thu Apr 12, 2012 3:02 am

I take my Senegal BiBi to the grocery store quite often. He is shy, having been abused by his previous owners, but he loves the grocery store! I peel a banana for him and he munches while watching all the commotion.

One evening, while in the cheese/ lunch meat aisle, a girl a d her boyfriend passed by us. The girl suddenly noticed BiBi on my shoulder and was so startled she screamed and almost fell backwards.

BIBI LAUGHED!!! He laughed! Then her boyfriend laughed, and so did I. Finally the girl laughed.

I still laugh at how BiBi was the first to find the humor in the situation!

He has yet to laugh at the numerous people who ask "is that bird real?". I have resorted to the snarky reply," he's stuffed".

Aw bless, thats so cute. No animals allowed in our grocery stores and most other shops unless they are assistance dogs for the blind/deaf/disabled etc.

Maybe teach him to say no i'm not real. save you a job each time you get asked :D

Well, my local Stater Bros. lets BiBi come in. He's a celebrity there! All the cashiers will jokingly ask if he's real. Several employees there have parrots - a B&G Macaw, an African Grey... I currently live down the street from an "Omar's, and it seems as if there is a higher concentration of bird owners because of that. I'm taking him to Omar's today and getting my little butterball weighed so I can document his weight loss. He weighs 198 grams!

Too funny. Marie83... It's the same around here...no pets allowed unless they are "working"... maybe we can train our birds to be our "seeing eye parrot"

Seriously there is way too much fuss about hygiene of animals, I reckon it all started with the irresponible owners. The ones who don't train their pets, let them pee on things, dont clear up after their dogs on the park/beach etc. I work in a shop and half are customers are way dirtier than a well taken care of animal.

I work at Petsmart so I can understand not letting people bring pets like dogs in stores - ugh the amount of people I see that let their dogs pee all over product and don't even clean it up - meaning it turns into my job to clean it. It's disgusting and they pee everywhere, not even just once... All over the place.

I haven't seen anyone bring a bird in, but if they are as clean as you guys are saying - I don't see why not in stores. I am sure people in my area would love to see a bird then a dog (big Asian and south Asian influence here). :swaying:

Thats what I mean, why would a dog pee inside anyway? none of mine ever have even where other dogs have ''been'' we used to take them to pets at home semi reguarly. Its usually the owners, not the pets thats the issue.

I would still rather clean up animal mess than serve half the idiots we get in, a few of them only seem to clean themselves on their birthday....
