I just wanted to let everyone know she is doing well, she comes out of her cage easily now but still has refused to try any new foods (no fruits, no veggies, no pellets, just her seed mix, peanuts, and toast). Hopefully the people at the sanctuary will be better at switching her over to good foods.
The first few days I had her I was sort of lulled into a false sense of security (lol!) she didn't scream at all, just some weird sounds, some "hello's" and some whistles. I stupidly figured "oh she must have just been screaming because she was never let out of the cage"....nope! About a week after I got her I put her back into her cage to eat and she let out the most horrible screech I've ever heard in my life. I almost had a heart attack because I wasn't expecting it. Now whenever I leave the room she screams like a banshee for a few minutes, luckily the neighbors in my duplex know the situation and are very patient.
All in all having a cockatoo for a few weeks was a good and trying experience. I wouldn't suggest ANYONE get one unless they know what they are getting into, and even then...please adopt, there are so many abused and neglected cockatoos.
