Jello Turns one and learns how to fly!

Postby gabbagabbawill » Tue Jun 12, 2012 5:08 am

Well, Jello just turned one year old on June 4th!!!! :sun:

He also finally grew in his flight feathers and is flying with ease!

He now flies back to his cage on command from any room in the house. He's only been flying for just over a week, so I'm letting him get some practice in and used to turning corners in the house, etc before I start training anything else.

I just wanted to post this exciting news, as I love spending time with my Jello more and more every day....

Soon, I will start training him to fly to me...

Jello is now flying to me and back to his cage on cue!

Watching him fly is amazing... I can't wait until he is harness trained so I can take him to the park!!

I am very happy that your parrot has learnt how to fly.

But I don't think you should the harness on him just yet.
He's only just learnt how to fly so he might feel uncomfortable with it.
My parrot, who is called koko, was purchased by us when he was 3 months old. He knew how to fly already, which was fantastic. He is now 1years old but screams or gets ready to bite whenever he sees the harness. Maybe your parrot is more calm and gentle but don't take a risk. Put it near him just to see it he is alright with it. If he fluffs up, take it away and wait till he's a little older.

Anyways, I am very happy for you and jello.

Bye.

p.s. jello is a cute name!

Thanks! Yeah, I have been very, very slowly introducing him to the harness... so slowly that he barely notices it when I have it nearby. He will "step through" a large loop for a treat, but that is as far as I have gotten with it.

He already lets me pick up both wings and extend them out... he's very comfortable with it...

But for now, he's getting flight time indoors... he is out of his cage most of the day when I am around to supervise and he circles the room every once in a while at his whim. I have a perch set up across the room, that if I put him on it, he will eventually fly back to his cage, but he never seems to want to fly to the perch on his own, even though there are toys there for him to play with. I have been thinking of attaching a food bowl with just treats or his favorite food as an incentive to fly to the perch on his own... then after a while, swap the treats for his regular foods...
