Unusual? (added new pic)

Postby marie83 » Wed Jul 18, 2012 10:13 am

Does anybody elses birds actually hold their wing or tail feathers with their foot whilst preening the others? Ollie is the first bird I've ever had who does this, it looks so funny with him stood on 1 foot whilst holding the feathers with his other foot, it's almost like his holding the feathers out his way in order to reach the others.

No, ours dont do this, but Stitch when in a foul mood does this to Leroy, he grabs Leroys wings and then start fighting with him! Its a really bad habit he's developed when fighting, as he learned it works...

marie - we need a picture of that.

Rambo has a foot fetish. He preens his feet until they are bloody. Anyway he used to. Now when he finishes preening his feet Myrtle will stick her foot out and he preens it.

Oh I am trying, he usually moves just before the click :( The one time he didn't it came out way too blurry. He is having a good preening session as I write this so i have the camera ready to pounce lol.

Yeah, Scrubby does that sometimes :D She'll grab one of her tail feathers and then she'll turn around to preen the rest. It looks pretty ridiculous.

Sometimes she'll keep hanging onto it after she's moved onto her wings, so she's contorting herself in weird positions all the while on one foot. I've only seen her do it on top of her cage where she can really hang on, and I usually leave her alone when it's going on. Knowing her, she'd probably topple over if she saw me coming.

Not very clear at all and it isn't how he usually holds his feathers but here is the best pic I've managed to get so far.
He is hanging off of my boyfriends sons leg at the same time which is why is looks weirder lol.

Wow! What beautiful colors. Ollie is a very pretty bird!

His balance is also a lot better than Scrubby's. I don't know if she'd preen like that standing at the edge of someone's leg

Right on cue, Scrubby started preening herself after I saw that picture of Ollie. She moves really quickly (and gets distracted easily) so it was hard getting a good photo.

Note: You can see her clip really well in this shot. We didn't choose to have her wings clipped, she just came to us that way. We were also unaware that the breeder clipped all of her flight feathers. She's molting a little bit right now, so we're hoping she starts regrowing some of them sooner than some estimates are saying.

Here's one more. It's really blurry, but it's a better example of how ridiculous she looks doing this.
