Rodney update

Postby nuttyone1 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 2:12 pm

Well its been just over a month that I have had Rodney :amazon: and we are both doing so well settling in with each other, although he's not so keen on my oh giving me cuddles!! Rodney is now very happy taking treats - apple, peanuts and pumpkin seeds are his faves - from me, has learnt target training and in the last 2 days we have progressed to stepping up and down from a hand held perch. He is still unsure of stepping up on my hands and tries to nip so perch is where we are at.

I am also very much less afraid of his bite and someone on here gave me some fab advice when they said the first bite is the worst, as although i have managed to get a few nips (all through my own fault trying to get him on my hands to quickly) none have been as bad as my first bite.

Although he is scared of my hands he is very comfortable having plenty of scratches and is more than happy preening my hair (quick question while i'm at this point - he doesnt pull hair out just nibbles, is this ok or will he get a hair ball, silly question maybe but thought i had better check).

He also absolutley hates my hoover and noisily tells me off everytime I use it. So i guess this is where we are up too, and I can honestly say I will never be without him and with a lot more lovings, trusting and patience I hope to be able to be able to teach him more that I'm his and he's mine - For life. :amazon:

regarding the hair thing/his preening you - just be mindful of what kind of product, if any, you put on your hair, as Rodney is basically ingesting it. It might be so minimal that some would say it's not worth worrying about, but I personally would rather be safe than sorry!

I, personally, wouldn't feed peanuts as some have a toxic fungus in them since they are taken from the ground, and as Jenny said, better to be safe than sorry.
