Meet the Family

Postby Grey_Moon » Tue Aug 21, 2012 6:21 pm

Here's my little rag-tag family :) thought I'd finally introduce everyone. I apologize for the pics sucking a bit---cellphones and shaky hands make for poor artistic expression

The star of the show (naturally) Miss Jacko:

My big ol girl Chakra (she's a leopard gecko and about 4-5 years old at this point--getting up there for a bred female!) But she's a good girl---a bit of a piggy, but she makes you laugh with those eyes.

And mah boy, Ihysius (pronounced Iss-ee-us for those of you wondering  ) he's about 2.5 feet long and is a 1.5 year old pastel. He's named after my first power animal. Absolute dream to handle, he's very calm and gentle.

Nice to be introduced to your family :)
They are all very beautiful. I'm not sure I could have a snake now, they never used to bother me until I did some volunteering at a place that had several highly unpredictable ones- they are just so fast when they strike but they can stay in the strike pose for ages so you never quite know if they are going to or not... I imagine its different with a pet snake but I've been well and truely put off lol.

Your bird is beautiful.
I used to have geckos and they can be fun intelligent pets. I had three and they knew their names but only Max would respond when I called him.
You ball python is beautiful too.

Thanks everyone :)

I do what I can do keep everybody looking their best.

Marie you know I actually was afraid of snakes, still am to a certain degree but I always found them to be beautiful animals so I decided to conquer my fear. Ihysius has been a big help---and he strikes fast for sure when he eats but I'm pretty sure I can read him well enough to avoid it. He'll probably get me one day (I'll spook him or smell of rat on feeding day or something)--but everyone I've ever spoken to always says it hurts less that a parrot bite...and if that's the case  bring it on!

My next self-growth project goes by the name of Brachypelma smithi or Mexican Red-Knee (WARNING FOR THOSE OF YOU NEEDING YOUR CRITTERS TO HAVE FOUR LEGS OR LESS DO NOT GOOGLE  )Again, beautiful critters, but they scare me because my mother was a huge arachnophobe and taught me well.

Liz, I find geckos to be really personable little animals too. Chakra is very friendly, (and like to hair surf like a caique--silly lizard)---I find her very intelligent and she likes to explore (escape artist extraordinaire) which is funny because most of them like to sleep in their burrows and are content. Her new cage is in the works...a total of 3 feet by two feet floorspace---hopefully that'll keep her content with room to roam

Agree with the geckos, they are beautiful and have so much personality for a lizard. I want a gecko or a beardie but I think 3 pets are enough for the flat. Just aquired a house rabbit who is more dog than rabbit.

I would much rather have a snake (not phobic of them, just highly wary) than a spider, spiders terrify me but I have to admit that I'm slowly getting a bit better with them. I can cover all but the fastest or biggest with a glass and await rescue. I couldn't even be in the same room as one a few years ago. I'm glad i didn't have to feed the tarantulas when I did my work experience, I was giving them a wide berth every time I walked past them incase I accidently knocked their tubs over.

Your viv for your gecko sounds good.

Your very brave me thinks. :)

When I was a kid I was so much braver. I held a scorpion and a tarantula more than once. Now I'm not even sure you could pay me to do that. I definitely wish I was less fearful... :/
