Our Bird Returned to Us Against All Odds

Postby falonso » Tue Nov 27, 2012 9:15 pm

My wife and I live in the Chicago area, and on Thanksgiving morning our pet cockatiel, Tango, flew out the window. We were horrified, and we were able to track him down only to see him chased out of sight by a hawk. We were left not knowing if he was dead or alive, until Sunday when we got a call. Through a bunch of one-in-a-million shots bundled into one, we were able to get our bird back. A guest at a local Hotel had found him frozen and motionless in the parking garage and nursed him back to health. :greycockatiel:

Here was the full version of the story: http://www.livingwithmywife.com/tangos- ... adventure/

I hope you like the story, and I hope it helps anyone who has lost a bird to not give up.

EDIT:
Thanks a lot for reading the story, I'm glad you liked it. I made a video version of the story in case anyone is interested, I tried to make at least a little visually interesting so it has some footage us trying to get Tango out of the tree and him at 8 weeks. Let me know if you like it.

A story with a happy ending, I'm glad Tango is safe and sound. And poor thing being chased by a Hawk, at least he was fast enough to avoid it.
Ironically my Whiteface Cockatiel flew out of my back door over a month ago, I put up posters and checked local vets but to no avail. I was going to give up untill last weekend a woman called saying she'd found him two days after I'd lost him. They'd had him for 6 weeks, he's home safe and sound now ^^

That is a pretty amazing story too. I am glad I didn't have to worry for 6 weeks. I guess it just goes to show that you should never give up.

Oh, my gosh! I'm so glad that the story of your lost cockatiel had a happy ending. Most of the stories about similar things happening to other people's pet birds don't! All the best of luck to you and your cockatiel friend, and to the hotel guest who found him and nursed him back to health for you!

That's such a heartwarming story....I'm so pleased you got little Tango back against all the odds! He looks like quite a character. I have to ask though - it looks pretty clear in the video that Tango is clipped and it says on your profile 'no' for flighted. Has this changed your views about clipping Tango at all? There's a lot of discussion amongst bird owners about clipping vs flighted and one of the main arguments given for clipping is that it keeps the bird safe. Had Tango's flight feathers grown out when he got lost or was he clipped?
