Your little lady is so cute! It makes me happy to see a well adjusted Senegal out there. Yay! Basil is a cute name and short, but I'm just lazy and like short names when talking to animals or people. I look forward to hearing more!

Aw, now that I know "Brightsides" was a name given to her by a little boy it seems like such a cute and sweet name for a Senegal. :-) "Basil" is a nice name, too but even wild parrots give their offspring individual names and after five years of being "Brightsides" she might realize that's her name. Just something to consider.

I have a rescue Poi and a re-home GCC and I wasn't a big fan of the re-home's name ("Bubba") and I almost changed it to "Bobby" (different name but similar in sound). In the end I kept "Bubba" because that's what people had been calling him for a year and a half. After 4 1/2 years it's kind of grown on me and I like it, especially because he says it now and the way he says it sounds so adorable.

I'm glad Brightsides/Basil has a new "forever home" with you and I look forward to hearing more about her in the future. :senegal:

So we had a bit of a breakthrough last night. I have been working with Basil (yes yes we switched her name back again to Basil...permanently this time i hope) on saying "Hello." Each night for about 30 minutes I sit with her and repeadedly say hello. She would mumble or chirp or make a microwave noise (I swear i think the rescue had a smoke alarm with a dying battery because she makes that noise all the time). Finally last night she said hello. It was very quiet but she repeated it several times after i said it. She received a walnut as a treat because it is her favorite. Now to teach her to crack open a beer for me.

Hahaha....the way Basil's going it's clearly just a matter of time before she's going to the fridge to fetch your beer for you! Well done, you & Basil :danicing:

My sennie makes the microwave beep too....I've decided it must be one of their natural sounds as so many of them do it
