Bringing home a new baby Eclectus..tips

Postby kslish » Sun Feb 24, 2013 7:34 pm

Hello all,
i just purchased a male baby eclectus. He is currently 6 weeks old. I am not able to bring him home until he is weaned, but I do visit him almost everyday. However, the last visit i had my baby was more nibbly then before and her even lunged at me. My hand wasnt even near him at the time. He is housed right now with a Congo African Grey baby. The grey i can pet and has never tried to bite or lung at me. Does my bird not like me? Is this normal behavior? I have been researching for months. I originally want a grey but chose the eclectus for fear that the grey would become a one person bird and I have a 5 yr old son. I love my little baby and cant wait to establish a trust with him. Any tips or information??

i've never had an :eclectus: i only got to visit one at the foster home when i went to meet mya :corella: before i was allowed to adopt her. i did want one so the man who was fostering mya let me hold his named romeo, perfect name for him since he kissed me the whole time i was holding him. i don't think your new baby doesn't like you. like human babies they explore with their beak. make sure the breeder doesn't clip before he comes home for his safety especially with a 5 year old in the house. parrots generally don't care for the fast movements of children and he could bite your son out of fear if he can't fly away.
