New Senegal Owner in WA

Postby socal_sarah » Thu Mar 07, 2013 2:25 pm

Good morning, folks! Thought I'd make a quick introduction of myself & my Sennie, Cracker.

My name is Sarah & I live in Centralia, WA. I'm a brand new bird owner though I have quite a bit of experience with both wild & tame birds from when I worked at a vet hospital in Southern California for 7 yrs.

My fiance, Toby, & I "adopted" Cracker after we found him on Craigslist. Overall, he seems to be a pretty darn good bird and for that, we're thankful. He appears to have been clipped his entire 18 yrs, so we're letting his feathers grow. I will be trying to teach him to fly at some point. I also want to do some trick training with Mr. Smarty Pants. I will say that Cracker definitely enjoys Toby's company more than mine. I think he has a slight bird crush, lol.

I look forward to being an active member on this forum and learning new ways to engage Cracker.

Welcome to the forum, Sarah! That's great that you've given Cracker a good home. There's lots of Sennie
carers here so you'll have lots of useful info should you need it. Look forward to hearing more of Cracker

Nice to see another Sennie owner! I saw on your info that you're awaiting DNA testing on yours. Have you made any guesses by looking at the bird's tail feathers? This is what I used to double check:

Welcome! :-)

That's wonderful that you gave a bird a new home. I found my green cheek conure on Craigslist. He was 2 1/2 at the time.

I am glad you're letting Cracker's primaries regrow. After 18 years of being clipped it might be difficult to re-fledge him but hopefully with training he will be able to fly. :senegal:

Trick training is fun and if he prefers your fiance over you then you should be the one to train him as it will help improve his opinion of you.

Thanks for the link social_sarah, that's interesting. I've seen information about that before but haven't seen anything that detailed. My sennie is only six months old, so don't know if this colour sexing applies? Anyway, I sent away for DNA testing last week so anxiously awaiting news!
