Hello all! I am a 26yo chick from St. Paul, MN. I started off with 3 parrotlets when I was 21. I only have one of the three now (one was killed by the other 2, the other is now a breeder for someone because she couldn't be tamed). My boyfriend, Nick, and I finally found ourselves in the position where we could FINALLY get our dream birds! While I understand the huge controversy of getting more than 1 bird a year, we know exactly what we are getting into, and we love it

I am a (previously) certified vet tech with a specialty in avian medicine, but I left the field a few years ago due to a laundry list of personal reasons. But I left with an obsession of keeping happy, healthy pets! I am currently going to school for my BS in wildlife biology, because I love the challenge (and, well, I need to get away from working with people).
In our house I have a room dedicated to my birds

It's bird safe and it is where I house my 7yo male SI eclectus, Julian, my 5yo p'let Echo, and my 8mon old pineapple green cheek conure, Archer. The conure and the parrotlet usually get to be out all day with free reign of the bird room, and they love it! In the living room we keep our 4yo male bare-eyed cockatoo, Rocky (who is our only biter, he's a douche) and our 10yo female Goffin's cockatoo, Furby.
We have some wonderful changes coming into our lives! Nick and I will be sanding down and repainting (bird safe paint, of course) a triple stacker cage so the cockatoos as well as my Julian can stay in the living room with us. I am very excited about this project

Around the same time, I have 2 new members of my flock coming in from Michigan! After much research, deliberation, and exhausting conversation, we decided to breed Vosmaeri eclectus'! We chose to do so because a) I absolutely LOVE eclectus' and want to share that love with as many people as possible, b) because we have no Vossie breeders here in MN, the closest being in WI, and c) I have always wanted to try my hand at breeding, and with their rarity, their small clutches, and my comfort with the species they were the perfect pick. I have a close support system of 2 breeders of ekkies in my state (SIs and red-sideds), so I promise, I am not embarking on this blindly. I am so excited for this learning experience and challenge!
As an extra hobby I have also started building bird toys and will be making all sorts of all natural perches come summer. I am in the process of switching over the cockatoos and the conure to an all organic diet, and we all know that isn't cheap!
I have had some TERRIBLE experiences on other forums, so I am really looking forward to a positive place to share and learn!
