Hi from the little darkness king Ozzy !

Postby Unexpect » Fri Mar 29, 2013 4:29 pm

Hi everyone,
First I wanted to thx Michael again for all his help and contribution about parrots tips and co.
Also I appologize for my pitiful english : )

So after some months looking for parrot informations, I finally decided to have my own one. I wanted an African one for many reason, the first one is that I live actually in a flat and Africans parrots got reputation to be not that noisy. Then they seemed to be quiet easy to own as a beginer. And beginer I'm since I never had any kind of birds.

I visited some parrot raiser (dunno if it's the correct word) and I decided to pick a little Meyer. They were really well threated and in perfect health. This raiser won aswell mondial competition with his Meyer parent and many people recomanded him.

After few months (the necessary time to be weaned) Ozzy finally joined me in his new luxury palace ^^

He is really curious and especially rash. Dunno if it is commun to all parrot but seriously oO
He is afraid by NOTHING he is climbing and running evrywhere, tasting evrything etc ...
He is also really kind, he let himself scratch and stuff easily after few days.

I read and heard a lots of thing about "hand-fed" parrot (dunno the correct word) but since I wanted to have only one parrot I though that It ll be better for him. But with my nescience about parrot it's pretty hard to know what's the best solution for him. I hope I did good choice and that Ozzy ll grow up without any trouble.

Anyway after one week of train (2 session of 15-20 min/day) he is now able to touch and follow a target, to come when I ask, to understand what is "wrong" or not (bitte or chew cable) to recognize his name, to step up and down, and since today to turn around.

I think for my first one parrot its pretty fine, but I never could do that stuff alone without Michael tutorial and explanation from his usefull articles.

To finish (yeah cause i could speak about Parrot like whole night : ) I ll just introduce fast myself :
My name is Kloé and I'm french.
I'm an architect and my passion is illustration, especially videos games illustration since I'm a huge nerd ^^ And almost all arts in general, music, paint, litterature, moovies etc...
I'm glad to join all of you and I'm sure that I'll find many answer to all of my questions.

And as Ozzy is saying all the time : POUIC POUIC GUYZS ! :senegal:

Welcome to the forum Kloe & Ozzy. I really enjoyed reading your story of how you came to have Ozzy and it sounds like you & he are getting on really well! Ozzy sounds like a cutie & you made me laugh with your description of him. I have a baby Senegal (another Poicephalus and very similar to a Myers) and he is indeed 'running & climbing everywhere, tasting everything...'.
I think you made a very good choice to get a Poicephalus rather than an African Grey which are actually one of the more difficult parrots to raise.
Looking forward to hearing more about how the two of you get on

I read so many sad story about African Grey that it was out of question to get one.
They are maybe one of the best "parrot talker" but it's not something I'm looking for in parrot skill anyway.
I know I wont be able have a Grey. I miss experience, and probably time. They got also reputation to be super dependant. And I'll certaintly do mistake with ozzy. Even I'm trying to let him play alone hopping he wont be too much attached for me.

I almost picked a Senegal one before to see Ozzy but I though that I had to wait more and see other parrot raiser. Maybe this senegal could be also adorable than Ozzy right now but I dont regret my choice anyway.

For now I still think that Poicephalus are a good choice for beginer. Let's see then : )

Thx for your message Janetafloat : )
