It is my 1yr anniversary owning a Senegal...

:senegal:
It has been one year since I took the drive up to New Hampshire to get my little baby bird. I was a panicked pre-parent afraid I was going to ruin this little birdies life by not doing everything the "correct" way.. I got to the breeder and after holding my little guy for the first time I knew I'd be ok. I got into the car with the carrier and I pulled over and took my little guy out. we bonded in the car and by the time I got home(5hr drive) he wasnt afraid of me or my dogs. He came right out of his cage!! I knew this bird was different and I threw everything I was afraid of out the window. I became a calm birdie parent. He has been the best thing to happen to me in a long time! He flies to me when I call him.. he knows over 30 words and the whistles are numerous... he is incredible!! He plays with my little parrotlets... such a sight to see... but the best thing to watch is Basil the bird playing with my dogs. They know whos boss for sure, my poor dogs... LMAOHe really was easy to train, he just wanted to learn. He has learned 3 colors for sure.. he yells yellow everytime I pull out a yellow pepper from the fridge.. and purple cause thats his favorite candy color... and red cause he hates it. lol Well just wanted to chat about my wonderful birdie.

If you want to ensure a 2nd anniversary, and a 3rd, etc.... you should not ever allow birds and dogs to be in the same room.

Congrats! Sounds like he's a real charmer. And i am so happy your enjoying him so much. I love reading these kinds of posts. Like you, I have a parrotlet too, she is 12 weeks. I would love to also have a sennie. In fact the Senegal's was the bird I was gravitating towards, but I have a lot of fears that the sennie would be too much bird for me. Possible too loud too, I have fibromyalgia and too much noise hurts when i am already hurting. My lil parrotlet is a handful, she is definitely something I can manage. Little bird, big attitude, but she is a loads of fun too.

To set the record straight about the dogs, I have a weiner dog and a little white fluffy mutt... they are very good with the bird. they walk away from him when he is on the ground. like they are scared... It is completely supervised. :-)

I have 13 blown discs in my back and my Sennie is not a handful for me. He isnt all that loud, just if I leave the room or something like that. I am getting a mealy amazon parrot. She is 20yrs and needs a home. :senegal:

Well I took the plunge and got a 4 m/o :senegal: Her name is Rio. We've had her now for 17 days. She is way quieter (except for the occasional call) and WAY less demanding then my parrotlet. As least so far. She is a real doll and we are very happy with our decision.
