Hello Omni :)

You will learn a lot here! Just reading old posts have helped me out greatly and I've had birds as pets before. What type of parrots are you interested in?
My family: "Emmi" Green Cheek Conure (12/15/2012), One husband, two step kids, and one baby boy born in January 2015!

I have a small Conure. That's all I can handle! Lol Big beaks scare me!

But they are very elegant. Especially when they fly. I remember when I was a child and the local zoo brought one to show us in our gym. I don't think I had ever seen one fly before that and I have not forgotten it! Such beautiful birds with personality.

But ouch! That beak! My Conure can bite pretty hard, but I don't know about being around a bird that can crack big nut shells! Lol I need to get over my fear. :)

I was scared when I first see their beaks, too. I haven't been bitten by their beaks yet.
Wish me not have that day comming~~

I hate to tell you but parrots bite! Definitely something to consider. I'm with you, KimberlyAnn, I'm a complete wuss, but my Sennie has bitten me a few times and it hurts....and he's just a little squirt compared to many parrot breeds, I don't know how people do it!

You either deal with the fact you got bitten in a kind, calm manner or dont bother getting a bird at all. Sorry but you will get bitten at some point, if you cannot handle being in pain and think you might lose your temper do not ever get any animal, they need kindness and patience and you know what? 99-100% of the time I get bitten its my own fault so I couldn't possibly punish the animal even if it could understand.

Even a cockatiel can have a pretty mean bite... as they grind their beaks while biting down. They can easily pierce your nail! I can almost guarantee at some point you will get bitten and 9 times out of 10, it will be your fault because birds very rarely bite for absolutely no reason. Behaviour should be controlled by taming and loads of research into how you can prevent this.

Agreed, if you don't want to get bitten don't get a bird. If you react to the bite by saying oowwww or screaming or something like that the bird will do it again and again.

Don't worry about my behavior after being bitten.
I've already prepared everything.
I would never get the bird if I don't think completely. :danicing:
