New to the Forum, Old to Parrot Parenting.

Hello! My name is Nadia, I hail from Edmonton, Alberta - Canada, and am the proud owner of a 7 year old quaker parrot named Charlie, but I always call him "Chicken" or "Chubs". He isn't my first parrot but he is the biggest, I had budgies previous (and yes I count them, sadly many people do not).

Actually Chubs just celebrated his 7th Hatchday on the 23rd of April *sniffle* they grow up so fast! Tried to upload pictures of him, but apparently all of my files are too large.

Anyway, feels good to finally be a part of a parrot enthusiast forum, glad to be here :)

Yay! I am gla to hear it :D I have had four budgies previous and they all knew how to step up and down, play safely outside, never had dowel perches, could whistle and one could talk a little bit (though he was shy) and eternally tried to switch them off seeds and onto pellets, with minimal success. I love their little twittering chirps, so cute.

My quaker on the other hand will only eat pellets. Makes training him difficult since he hates seeds and so I can't use them as incentive. I've tried fruits and veggies but honestly he only goes nuts over "people food" which I reframe from using. Though I have caught him zealously stealing Kraft Dinner off my plate a few times, I'd have to say that's his favorite food.

He's weird.

do you eat the fruits and veggies in front of him? that sometimes helps since their flock birds so they eat together and always want what we're having. mya :corella: doesn't like fruit or veggies unless they are steamed or snuck into her hot oatmeal.

Hehe yeah I eat it in front of him, say "yum yum" and if he shows interest I offer it to him. He usually tears it apart but doesn't consume it haha.
