Hi Kimbo..thanks for the welcome.
I own two parrots. They both come from the same parents, but one clutch away from each other. Patience the older, Kermit the younger.
I by chance grew to develp a friendship with a lady at my daughters preschool that works at our citys Safe Haven for animals. She has been breeding senegals for quite a few years. I had known about her and got to know several of her birds over a period of 5 years. She has a very large house and property and developed a large flock of her own (not just sennies). She has a huge heart and took in some birds by adoption.
This past year, she became overloaded. She knew she was taking on too many animals. And the hours at the Safe Haven coupled with her hours spent on her own animals was taking away her time for her human family. We talked for a few months about the chance of me taking one of her 4mos. old sennies home to keep and after getting to know Patince for a while I took her home with me. At the same time, Kermit came along unexpectadly. She thought his egg was unviable, and did not pull the egg on the day she usually would her other babies. A few days went by and she went to pull the egg out but it had hatched and kermit was sitting behind his mother as a surprise...nearly hidden. I offered to take him home with me too. She gave me two very nice and large cages for my birds and they are very happy in them.
Patience and Kermit are sperated for the most part. I do take both of them in the showers with me know that they are older. When they were first with me they would try to place position with each other..patience usually always won. But now Kermit is bigger then Patience so she has given up and they are very good friends and snuggle and lightly peck at each other if they are left alone on the same perch.
My birds are mainly handled by myself and my husband in the evenings. Kermit likes my husband and Patience puts up with him. They both fight over me to get their special attention, just nearly the same as my human kiddos do! I have a boy (8yrs in June) and a girl (6yrs this month).
Wow...sorry...this got long and rambling....*lol*.....good thing I am a fast typer!
Here is a link to a few pictures of the time right before Kermit came home to live. Kermit as a baby, Kermit with his dark baby eyes, and my kiddos in the cleaned cages waiting to be filled with toys and our new family members.
