New alexandrine parakeet

Postby aal-ok » Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:27 am

I got a alexandrine parakeet in a bad state her legs were internally bruised so she was not able to stand properly and also to sleep she puts he beak in cage to sleep and can't even walk. Now with good food he can walk almost perfectly but I think she has a problem in standing and she sleeps also well
she can fly well, now I am teaching her to step up. And how can I determine her age :irn: :

Hiya!

Has she been taken to the vet about her legs? If not take her to the vets right away.
Make sure the you check her weight on scales to see if she is underweight or overweight, if underweight you might want to consider syringe feeding her. There's not much I can say with not much detail on the alexandrine but thats good to hear that she can fly well.

You might have waited too long as it is, my dear. If she had broken bones, they might have knit in the wrong position and although surgery can be done to correct it, it will cost an arm and a leg now (and I know because I rescue birds and I got one that had had her legs broken for 20 years and the surgery and treatment afterward was hugely expensive).

How long have her legs been in this state? Keep her warm and avoid having her walk a lot.
