Hello

Hello. Just joined today.
We currently own 2 parrots..
I own an Umbrella Cockatoo and my Fiance owns a Congo African Grey(marley)

My Too came with a dumb name and I am changing it. He has a broken wing(healed, broke as a baby). He has an open band so i believe that means he was imported, was told he's 13 years old. He came in a flight cage suitable for conures, not a bird his size and was covered in feathers, dust and poo(cleaned that up this morning, got him at 10p last night). He's fully feathered. Will cower in corner and try to bite in cage but I can get him to step up on a dowel and come out and he can be pet but still tries to nip(people who had him still have birds and we are hoping they drop price of those ones and we will snatch them up-mollucan cockatoos.) :cockatoo:

Marley, is a plucker, he came from a place where he was kept covered in his cage for 8 years. now he has a cage that is over 6ft tall and could hold 6 more parrots. He talks up a storm. I cannot handle him he does NOT like women one bit, I'm only good enough to feed/water him. He now has ALL kinds of toys. He's a good boy. :gray:

If you live in the States and he is 13 and has an open band, he couldn't possibly be imported because they stopped that back in 92 when the Wild Bird Conservation Act was passed.

You were very kind to adopt these two troubled birds and wish you all the luck in the world with them but I would suggest you wait a couple of years before you acquire more birds because, even if you have years of experience with parrots and know exactly how time-consuming, labor-intensive and expensive they are to keep, abused birds require A LOT of work and time put into them which you will not have if you take in more birds (there are only so many hours in the day and I assume you have to work, don't you?).

I also strongly recommend you take them both to a good Avian Vet for a completely physical (exam, CBC, avian chemistry panel, bile-acid test and full body X-Rays) because, usually, birds that were neglected and/or abused like these two were have medical issues, too, and those cannot be cured with love.

I am happy with just my cockatoo. I had an umbrella once but he hated MEN SO much he would hurt himself and almost broke his neck trying to get to my fiance, he was 7 years old and cowered if a man came near but then started to get brave and attack. we placed him in a home with 2 women. they still have him and have a special room for him far away if their fathers or such come by. people ruin these birds and abuse them either knowingly or by being uneducated.

My fiance at sometime would like another grey.

currently Tiggers cage in next to my spot on the couch and just threw all his food at me. i should be thankful he hasnt screamed yet.
