No i'm sorry that's still too small for a pair. Look at Montana and King's brands or flight cages. This cage will be massive. Unofrtunately many people used to keep birds in tiny cages and now its become knowledge that its ok. Minimum sizes are ALWAYS too small.

Something like this would be suitable

Note the bar spacing.
Horizontal bars
Room for flight

Thanks for the link. Those cage dimensions are somewhat matching mine. So you are saying a cage that is 3 Feet in Length x 2 Feet in Height x 2 Feet in Depth is small for a pair? Are you sure?

I'm sorry I thought you were referring to inches measurements!

My mistake! Anything the link sort of size with horizontal bars and 1-2 inch bar spacing is adequate providing they can spend time outside the cage at least 4 hours per day.

You need a width and a height of about 36 inches (depth at 24 in is OK).

Re: Maize for African Lovebirds

Postby deepakeapen » Mon Aug 05, 2013 9:57 am

My vet told me that Maize is good for lovebirds as a good energy source. If so, should I give it cooked or raw. What should be the staple diet for African Lovebirds? If I am feeding them Sunflower Seeds, should I also give them Maize? BTW I am also giving them veggies, fruits and other nuts also.

Thanks,

Hi,

Sunflower seeds are only for treats they are far too high in fats to be given to birds all the time. If you are going to feed some seeds stick to lower fat seeds.

African lovebirds, as lovebirds in general love leafy greens like kale and veggies. I think they are also partial to fruits, papaya, mangos, etc. Also try a soaking mix with beans, lentils, quinoa, etc you can also sprout this by keeping it in glass jam jars with a muslin cloth over it. You can also do this with some seeds they are much healthier this way!

Maize yes, this is an eggfood ingredient but why not feed 'birdie bread' that's a great treat! There's lots of recipes on the internet and pre made mixes you can use. You can put fruits and veggies in these too!.

Do I need to cook these beans, lentils, quinoa, etc or any other seeds for that matter? Or it just need to be sprouted?
What about Maize, should it be cooked or can it be fed raw?

Thanks.

You need to soak them overnight in boiling water, rinse them in cold water the next morning very throughly, then cooked them for 30 minutes on the hob or sprout them which is healthy too.

Seeds don't need to be cooked but you can sprout them too in a moist kitchen towel, glass jar and muslin cloth
