New member - Mulga parakeet

Postby MulesFan » Sat Jul 27, 2013 9:18 pm

Hello everyone,

I found this forum while I was searching for info on Mulga parakeets. I noticed there were some other members here with a Mulga.

I'm trying to figure out a proper cage size for him. I've looked at the Vision L01. I like it because of the seed guard because Minnow is pretty messy. However, it doesn't seem that it is deep enough for him & his lovely tail. I am looking now at cages that are about 22 inches deep.

Does anyone have any better info on cage size or appropriate care?

He's 2 years old, I've had him only 2 weeks, and he is not tame at all. I'm making some progress getting him to settle down by reading to him and just starting a bit of clicker training so he won't be afraid of the sound. Any advice is most welcome!

Welcome to the forums :) there is indeed someone else on here who has a mulga, it might be worth doing a quick search and sending them a PM, its not a species I'm familiar with. If the vision cage is the make I'm thinking of its not big enough for any species other than a temporary, travel or sleep cage and you need to go much bigger in my opinion.
Make sure your parrots fully settled in before you start training, with older birds this might take a fair bit longer but I would give it at least another 2 weeks. Theres nothing to stop you sitting near the cage and gently talking to your bird to get him familiar with your presence though, sit at the closest point he is comfortable with you being there and you can slowly move towards the cage as he feels more comfortable.
