Hi! I own a Congo African Grey :gray: which I have had for a few months now, I have had birds in the past, but was to young and scared to know how to train or bond with them. I am new to bird training and my bird is not tame (but I really dont think he is wild caught) so I may require some help  . Thanks in return

Hi Kai,

It's nice to meet you. What is your bird's name? I hope to hear about the progress that you make with him. I recently adopted a pionus, and I'm a first-time bird owner. Luckily he is pretty tame already. I brought him home a few days ago and am slowly building up his trust. Where is your bird at nowadays and have you noticed any changes over the last few months?

Cheers!

Hello! thanks for the replies!
My grey's name is Freddie. I have taught him to step up(but sadly only on perches) and he bows his head down for a scratch when he sees my hand. I also have taught him to shake hands/high four
He used to make alot of cute noises like different calls, and things like water drops, but he stopped now :( I hope to hear more about your progress with your Pionus.
I have owned 2 cockatiels :greycockatiel: but sadly, they both passed away :(

It's not so much a matter of whether the bird was born in the wild but of whether the bird was hand-fed by humans and, if the person who did it did not force-feed, it's pretty easy to determine: get yourself a feeding syringe, fill it up with room temperature baby food and offer it to him. If he gets all excited and eagerly takes it, he was hand-fed. If he ignores it, he was not.

Might be worth trying a spoon too, a lot of breeders prefer to spoon feed.
