Re: When does your GCC female get in "HEAT" ?

My dear, please don't take this the wrong way but you are scaring me with your questions. I don't mind any question on husbandry but you seem not to know anything whatsoever about birds, not even the most basic things... Birds don't go in 'heat', only mammals do. Birds go into breeding condition. This implies sexual hormonal activity but it doesn't necessarily mean they are 'hormonal', they only get that way if they become sexually frustrated (which you avoid by keeping them to a strict solar schedule, just like nature intended for them, reducing protein intake during the cold weather months -which are called the 'resting season' by birders- and never caressing them inappropriately -back, belly, under wings).

Birds go into breeding condition once a year, in the spring. But yours won't be going into it until next season.

I'm not sure why you deleted your post (I read it beforedeletion but couldnt reply) but please understand that peopleare trying to help you not make you look silly. There is a lot to learn and even experienced keepers don't know it all. Obviously people should do their research before aquiring an animal but whats done is done and I'm glad your here trying to learn instead of just bumbling along and eventually giving up or harming your bird. I would like to suggest you get a few books on conures to read about health, diet, behaviours, breeding cycles, how to keep them safe etc. Most books aren't great but it will give you a good idea of the basics. We can then help you expand on your knowledge on diet, training etc. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need.
