New buddy

Postby Fieldmarshal » Sat Aug 24, 2013 2:05 pm

Hi all - been following the forum for a few weeks, and decided to join following my new addition yesterday....

Chip is a 10 week old senegal. I got him as I still miss my previous Sennie who died 3 years ago, after 15 years of being part of the family.

The breeder I obtained Chip from said he was weaned, however after selling his sister, Chip had gone back to crying for softfood. As it was a 500 mile around car trip (and 14 hours......thanks to the inadequacy of the M6, bank holiday traffic and a failed wheel bearing 50 miles from home!).

He seems to have settled in quite well... He is eating seed, walnuts, sweet almonds and a selection of fruit. He has taken to grapes and strawberries - previous sennie didn't like strawberries - I think it was the colour.... He has played with or investigated most of his toys, and we have had a wonderful bonding session this afternoon, perched on one hand and the other cupping his head stritching his head and beak.... he actually fell asleep perched there.

He seems to have a good body weight - I can feel his breastbone, but there is plenty of meat on either side. However, I am a little anxious about him still softfeeding. I think in the long run we will bond better because of it; I'm just keeping an eye on his eating.

He can fly (is unclipped)although a little unsteadily and is a little clumsy and unsure footed around his cage, but I know he is still a baby.

He is stepping up and beaks everything so gently...

Anyway, I thought I would introduce Chip and I and look forward to any feedback and advice. :senegal:

Sounds great. I'm glad you're keeping him flighted. You'll realize it's way better this way. We have a lot of Senegal owners and Senegal information on this forum. Enjoy.
