Hi everyone! I'm new here and just wanted to say hello! Been lurking a bit today and I thought I'd finally say HI! My name is Cricket and my Eclectus is Kermit (It's not easy, being green lol). I got Kermit as a rescue, he was originally a breeder and when the breeders decided they weren't making enough money they closed up shop and gave Kermit and his mate, Scarlet, to a friend of theirs. Scarlet passed away a few years after that. To make a very long story short, I learned of Kermit and just how badly he was being neglected. I saw him, he was underweight, he'd chewed most of his feathers off and his beak was so overgrown that it was hard for him to eat. His cage was dirtier than you could imagine and I don't think his water dish was ever cleaned. I arranged to foster him until a new home was found and I took him home. After just one day, I was completely in love and decided that he'd adopted me, and that he was staying.
Now, I've had him for 7 years, his feathers are sooooo much better (the vet says that they'll never grow back underneath his wings because of the damage he caused himself). The vet isn't sure how old he is, his best guess is 25 or so. I've never met a nicer bird than this one. He's very kind, very gentle and friendly. He loves my fiance's nieces and nephew (all small children) and will even play with the 3 year old. I don't clip his wings, he's got his full flight set, but cannot fly, he never learned. I've gotten him to a point where he can go short distances, but it's more like controlled falling than flying. lol
Okay, I've gone on long enough...

Hope to get to know some of you and your birdies a bit and learn how to become an even better birdiemum.
