My husband and I brought Freyalise, a 6-month Green Cheek, into our family yesterday. We're excited but a little nervous. I've lived with, or temporarily rescued, several cockatiels, but this is the first bird of any other breed. My husband has seen me rescue a couple birds and wasn't sold on the experience because they had behavior problems after abuse and neglect. Right when they turned into angels, I found them a permanent home. I decided this go around to be a little selfish for his sake as much as mine and start with a young bird rather than try to rehab an older one.
We're Wyomingites by way of Montana and Seattle who have settled, of all places, in Houston, Texas.
I haven't had much of a chance to search the forums -- and I'm sure this is something someone else has already addressed -- but I would love tips on early training and trust building. All but one of the tiels I owned were rescues, so I have very little experience with juvenile birds.
Eager to be here.
