I am knew to this forum: Question

Postby Suzanne Conroy » Tue Dec 10, 2013 5:43 pm

I have a Senegal Parrot, his name is Barkley, he is 6 yrs. old and I have had him since birth. He is my first bird and I did not know how much love I could feel for such a small little being.

It is just myself, Husband and our dog Joe (3yrs). Barkley loves to go camping, riding bikes, gardening in the summer...he can do just about anything. I love him!

He loves to sleep with me....not every night but most nights. Is this okay?

I certainly would not let any bird sleep with me. You run a high risk of either injuring or killing the bird.

How sweet, that you are so close to your Sennie and have so much fun together! :senegal:

When you say sleep with you, do you mean in the same room, or actually sharing the bed? If the latter, I just want to warn you that I personally know someone who managed this for several months...only to wake up one day to to find she'd accidentally smothered her bird. She was devastated! And sadly, there are many other "death-by-sleeping" stories out there:

So no, I would not put this under the "okay" category.

Best wishes to you and Barkley,

Weka

You got your answer. Never in bed and, in the same room, only if you go to bed with the sunset (not likely to happen in the winter as you would have to go to bed at 3:30 pm -LOL)

Welcome to the forum! Your sennie sounds SO cute. Siiiigh, I love Senegals ♥

I would rest or watch a movie with my sennie while in my bed, but not actually sleep with her. So yes, I concur with the others, don't actually sleep with your bird in the bed because I have heard of stories of accidentally rolling on your bird and killing him/her while sleeping. Cuddle-time is great, though. :) I personally don't allow Chance in my bed, though. We just cuddle at the computer. Greys aren't as cuddly as Sennies, IMO... Chance likes her space. Tiki would CONSTANTLY want to be on me, getting attention and kisses. Chance is cool just being near, watching me and talking with me
