New Blue and Gold Macaw (Rescue)

Postby mysticmoonaviary » Tue Dec 10, 2013 6:58 pm

A couple of days ago I went to look at a blue and gold macaw on craigslist on a whim. I am bird knowledgeable to some degree, but know very little about macaws. I keep dreaming of one day getting one... this parrot was in a terrible homr and being sold for xmas money. I felt I could get him out of there and find him a much better home. I am getting very attached already!!
I am joining this board to learn more about him and ask a few questions regarding his health, etc.
I have an Eclectus and have plenty of experience with her, but he is so different! I hope to learn a lot here, and maybe even find him a great home!

Welcome from a fellow newcomer!

Ah, I know what you mean about Craigslist. So many sad, heart-wrenching stories! Are you able to have the bird looked over by a qualified avian vet before purchasing? Be careful: there are quite a few stolen, "flipped", or extremely ill birds in these listings.

Warmest wishes,

Weka

Weka is correct, first thing anybody should do is have a complete exam by an avian vet. And not only when they get a bird through CL but from anybody, even a baby from a breeder!
