Dubai african grey cites

Hey I am a new member on the forum I am English but currently living in Dubai.

I have been researching african greys for months and finally I was ready to go buy my feathered friend but when I was about to put a deposit down on the african grey and book a vet check I noticed the cites cert they have is a photocopy and it's a joint import cert for 2 birds.

I have been visiting this pet store for months and the birds are fine and well looked after talking and friendly.

I just want some extra info regarding cites... Do I need original copy? What links the cites cert and the bird? Do I need to re register the bird with cites after I buy it?

Any info big or small will be appreciated thanks

You would have to check with the authorities of that particular country but, if the pet store has not offered you a hatch certificate and only a import one, I would dare say the birds are wild-caught which translates into illegal poaching and I don't know how you feel about that but, personally, I am completely against it. There are no more wild-bird imports in USA since 92 when the Wild Bird Conservation act was passed but, before, you would get a certificate for each bird (although not a CITES one in the case of grays as they were not listed as endangered) as well as the information on the leg band which states point of entry, date and identifying number of the particular bird.
