New and looking for advice for finding a rescue bird

Postby Pinchinelle » Sun Jan 05, 2014 3:34 pm

Hello
I'm new to this forum. I've been reading through past posts and have already learned a lot, so I'm very glad I found it. I have experience with birds (corvids), have done a lot of research, and I would love to adopt either an African grey or an eclectus parrot. I was hoping to find a rescue bird that I could help instead of getting a youngster from a breeder. I would love to care for a special needs bird. I haven't managed to find one though (in Washington State or nearby states). Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?
Thanks a lot
Cheers
Nathalie

Welcome to the forums!
I would love to care for a special needs bird.

All birds are special need's birds ;).

However, its great that you want to help a rescue out.

Welcome!

Have you asked any avian vets in the area? They might know. Also, how did you come by a rook and jackdaw in the States? :) Not sure how they would get along with a parrot...but then I know very little about psitticine/corvid interaction.

Best wishes,

Weka

Thanks for the suggestion about avian vets, that's a good idea.

Yes the rook and jackdaw are european birds - i'm working at a wildlife rehab centre, and decided to adopt
them because they were non releasable

I suspect psittacines and corvids don't get along, i'm not planning to put a parrot together with the corvids!

Also try the Center Valley Animal Rescue, 11900 Center Rd., Quilcene, WA 98376, 360-765-0598. I adopted a blue-fronted amazon from them.
