Hello!

Postby Mekaisto » Wed Jan 08, 2014 7:42 pm

Hi everyone, thought I might as well introduce myself :)

I'm a zookeeper from Australia, and whilst I don't own any parrots of my own (yet!) I have had the opportunity to work with some seriously amazing species in the past.

I currently train raptors, which isn't quite the same as training parrots, but still pretty fun :)

I'll be getting a green cheeked conure as soon as circumstances allow - not the most amazing or exotic bird, but I love their personalities and charm :gcc:

You will LOVE having a Green Cheek Conure for your new buddy! As I'm sure you know from working with birds for a living. My GCC knows several tricks and she was pretty easy to train. I don't spend much time training her though. She talks a lot too, but I spend a lot of time talking to her. She's definitely a Velcro bird and goes with me everywhere when I'm home. And cuddles...she loves to cuddle! Such sweet birds.

So when will you get your new baby? And welcome to the forum! :)

Thank you :D

I've worked with GCCs before, and they're just such delightful little birds, definitely underrated by many parrot enthusiasts.

I'm not sure when I'll be getting him exactly, I'm still living at home at the moment, but am looking to move out within the next few months. I don't want to rush though, the last thing I want is to buy a bird, only to find that I won't be able to keep it due to unforeseen circumstances.

That's pretty smart! It's hard to know just how you will end up when first moving out. We live in an apartment with our GCC. She does pretty well and she's very quiet.

But yes! They are very underrated. I'm amazed every day on the new things Emmi does. They may not be strong talkers, but they make up for it with personality!

So I'm curious, what does your zoo feed its parrots?
