LOL - You don't have to care for it, the mother will. But it might not even be fertilized for all you know and, depending on the age of the birds (you did not say), it might not even be beneficial to them to actually have babies. Are you prepared/able to handfeed babies day and night for weeks and weeks or are you going to co-parent? Do you have a brooder? How about enough knowledge of their physiology? Have they been found healthy and free of disease by an avian vet in the last 6 months? Has the hen been allowed to fly daily for the last few months to develop her abdominal muscles? Breeding birds is not a matter of putting a male and female together and 'letting nature take its course'. It is in the wild but not in captivity where you can end up with a dead bird from eggbinding, a baby killed by the father or a baby with sour crop, crop burn, an eating disorder or splayed legs...

I think that trying to raise a baby at this time is not a good choice. If you decide to go through with this You have a lot of work ahead of you first. Lots of research and it would help to find an experienced breeder to go to for hands on type help and lots of questions to your vet.

I think that's a very good news. You must be happy. I think you should try to take good care of your wife and the coming baby as well.

I breed Spanish Timbrados (a breed of song canaries) occasionally and I never breed a bird unless I've had it for, at least, one entire year because you need to make sure the bird is perfectly healthy and that the hen has been flying for a few months (the muscles they use for flight are the same muscles that hens use for pushing the egg out) and, going by what you told me, this bird is in no condition to be breeding. She needs to go to an avian vet and have a complete physical (CBC, fecal, choanal swab, avian chem panel, bile acids, full body XRay and a chlamyidiosis test) and, when she gets a clean bill of health, then wait a year for her to be completely recovered from the severe neglect she suffered. A body doesn't bounce back that fast...

I have often seen birds in real bad physical condition attempt to breed a few months after they start getting better treatment and diet but just because they produce eggs it doesn't mean they are fit for breeding.

Have you, at least, been giving them supplements like vitamins and calcium? Was the broken egg shell nice and thick?

I tottaly agree shes not in shape to be laying eggs and now she to busy with the egg to go eat got me worried I put vitamin drops in their water for the past couple months I see their feathers got very shiny , the first egg was all white the tip of it got crushed it didn't spill it dropped from a branch thats like 30 inches above the bottom ,second egg is 2 color white and regular coffee color that looks like 2 liquids r mixing into each other with lines that run like a river. Who's the best maccaw vet in NYC-NJ area that can do all those tests

I would go here: http://avianandexoticvets.com/ I don't know what they are like price-wise but they specialize in avian medicine, provide specialty services and seem to have state of the art equipment.
