If it's an adult, you kind of leave him alone for a few days and just talk, sing, offer treats and keep him company until you can see he is comfortable with his new home, human, diet, schedule, routines, etc. And, if it's a baby, you just keep him close to you and feed him soft foods and a handfeeding a day until he no longer wants it.

Still young, but probably off hand-feeding. I'd take cues from the bird, then. Treat him/her like an adult with talking, singing, etc, and if he/she comes toward you in a friendly fashion, carefully try beak-scratching through the bars. If the parrot attacks your finger, you may be rushing things. If they duck their head under your finger, scratch their head. Go from there.

The books also suggest putting a towel or something across the back of the cage so the bird doesn't feel exposed on all sides. If the cage is against a wall you can ignore this.

The advice given was right, the only thing I have to add is to make sure you start from the very beginning with the same routine you will continue, parrots love routine!
