Hi From NZ

Postby oknuma » Sat Feb 13, 2010 9:09 pm

Hi All,

I received an invite via youtube some time ago from Michael and his gorgeous Senegal Kili. I decided to finally get my act together and come and say hello.

As the user name suggests my name is Oknuma , people call me Okie, Nu, Numa, whatever works for you LOL

I grew up with birds - an SC2 and budgies.. from there i moved into tiels and fostered a few birds in my time as well (in NZ,Australia and in PNG )

I had been without birds in my life for approx 9 or 10 years and suddenly one day last may we were out at my daughters horse riding lesson. My son who was 4 came running up to me saying "mummy mummy there is a monster on my leg" . I laughed and told him to go play, without looking. He came back and told me again " mummy mummy there IS a monster on my leg and its scratching me " I looked down and found a gorgeous Eastern Rosella. She was bleeding horribly from her back end where her whole tail had been removed along with a lot of skin etc :( We rolled her in flour to stop the bleeding ( from the instructors house) and then I explained to my children that we would keep her quiet and dark but most likely she would be dead the next morning.
She of course lived through the night and my son decided that Batman was a fabulous name and it has stuck since.

The vets said that batman would never grow another tail but her beautiful tail came in just before christmas last year which means that again she can be fully flighted.

Batman is a typical Eastern Rosella, loves human company but 100% on her terms. She is aggressive and mean at times but I love her spunky attitude.

Anyway that is one heck of an intro , so i will leave it there with a few pics

A few days after batman found us. you can still see the damage to her rear end (her wings were already clipped like that and much later we found out more about the awful previous owner. but that is a story for another time LOL )

when her tail started to come in we were very excited

and a recent one with full tail taken last week just after a bath (please excuse the unclean window and the toe nails that are getting done in a fortnights time )
