Why hello there.

Postby May55 » Wed Apr 09, 2014 7:24 pm

Hello. I'm May from Canada.

I currently do not have any birds due to living situations, but I am planning to get my first in approximately 1 year or so. I wanted to join the site to ask specific questions and to get as much research and information as I can before I finally bring a little one home.

I live with my boyfriend and we are planning a flock of at least 3. Ideally we would want a lovebird, a Quaker/Monk and a macaw (in that order or the first 2 switched). But nothing is set in stone.

I'm looking forward to learning and hopefully sharing my stories and experiences once I have my own flock. :)

Hello and welome, May! It is a great idea to learn BEFORE you bring your feathered kids home. If there are any parrot rescues near you, that is a good place to look. They have wonderful birds that became unmanageable as "teenagers", or were neglected, or abused, that have often been re-socialized and you have a better idea of what they grow into.

Enjoy your reasearch!

Welcome!

A year is plenty of time to read, research and prepare! Hopefully we will be able to help and guide you along the process :).
When having different species of parrots, it's better if they are roughly the same size, otherwise interaction between them can be potentially lethal. I know of a macaw who by mistake killed a Meyer's parrot, who just happened to get in the way when the macaw was frightened - there was no way for the owners to react, it happened too fast.

So, I would not reccommend those three species together, but of course its up to you to evalute how you feel about it!

Again, welcome to the forums, and be sure to post in the other sections and we will do our best to help :).
