Yes, it is VERY hard to clean everything. Years ago, when I had my own rescue, I took in a number of birds from an upstate NY rescue that was closing down and there was a tiel that had what I thought was a simple respiratory infection brought on by stress but it turned out to be psittacosis (the rescue said everybird had been quarantined and tested but, obviously, it was not true) and I ended up with an epidemic. My birds were housed in a birdroom that had no window coverings, no furniture, no nothing and even then it was hard.
For vit A you need to feed food rich in betacarotene which is, basically, any fruit or vegetable that is red, orange or yellow and any leafy green that is dark green, things like carrots (*), sweet potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkin, butternut squash, red/orange/yellow peppers (*), cantaloupe, passion fruit, fresh apricots (*), peaches (*), ruby red grapefruit, dandelion greens, romaine lettuce (*), broccoli, collard greens (*) (the ones with the asterisk need to be organic - the tomatoes are OK as long as they are cherry and hydroponic).
