New to forum

Postby Danish » Mon Jun 02, 2014 12:14 pm

Hello I am new here... obviously, we have two parrots also why I'm here :)
A young CAG :gray: and an old lady Pionus
I've had Charlie for 9 years or so now, she is lovely ( in my eyes ) a tad grouchy to the rest although she has learned to like my husband and goes very well to my youngest daughter. She is flighted and when out follows me around the house. She loves 'talking' to the toilet and hates black garbage bags (not sure why on both accounts). She does not talk but makes what sounds like talking noises (mostly to the toilet). She is highly motivated by food and loves to steal things off the plate or out of the bowl.
Our CAG is 6 months old and is a charmer, he is bonded to both of us quite well and goes to everyone in the family. He has a 'jungle gym' in the living room and watches for the kids to arrive home from school and can spot his humans amongst the others walking down the street. He has a special whistle for his 'flock' or if he wants something from us. He is semi-flighted and at this point considering his age and that he's still learning I think it's the best for now, it might change in future. He isn't motivated by food at all ... although he is always curious to see what we have and will taste things to see what they are. He is talking up a storm already and as we've learned you have to be somewhat careful what he hears as he can pick things up very easily :o
I look forward to meeting other 'crazy' bird people (as my daughter calls me)

Charlie isn't an old lady yet, at least I don't think so, her lifespan is around 25 to 30 years. Sounds like she is like all the rest of us, just a little quirky. It sounds like for a while anyway that your Greys favorite person is likely to be one of your kids.
Glad you joined up and looking forward to hearing more about your flock. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Wow Princes Yuz that's a lot of birds ! We nearly bought a cockatiel the other day since he was so friendly and just wouldn't leave us alone ! Every time we went past him he would 'wave' to step up and he came right up and wouldn't leave us alone ! :) My husband would LOVE a Macaw ! (we are bird people it seems). I have had many budgies and did have a Indian ringneck at one time but sadly lost him :( We've also had a lovie and a cobalt parakeet, both had medical issues and didn't live that long but they were wonderful little friends, I find the little birds have more issues but that's just an observation in comparison to what we've had. Anyway that's why I've joined as most people do not understand the obsession we have with birds and would love to meet people that are just as passionate however not too preachy (as I find some bird people to be)

Welcome! Beautiful babies! I am not going to be one of your favorite people here as I am quite 'preachy' when it comes to husbandry.
