Dear Pajarita, Thank you for being kind. I am no parrot keeper but I love Baby. She has integrated for good or worse into our house. I mostly go on instinct (and google as well as honored member's advice) but I am going into 3rd laying season in a few months and my heart already missies a beat. Her behavior seems to be good , her feathers flawless, her appetite good. Lives through football late at night and seems to like it when we have guests.
Wish us luck. So far so good. By the way, I do have black covers for her cage. She pushes them off, she is very systematic about it :-)

Dear Wolf, Thank you too! Thank you for your great advice. We are facing new unknowns Baby and I. Baby hasn't taken to flying on her own yet but she will. Its there in her face when she leans forward on top of her cage, body leaning forward but not quite letting go. I wonder if she ever had a chance to fly. She's ready to give it a go. We have a lot of wild ring necks in the area and recently she has grown more verbal (maybe the unclipped wings). If I can, I will send a picture of her in flight. Thanks for everything!

I am so very glad that we have been able to be a source of inspiration for you in helping baby to adjust to the rigors of domesticated life. I hope that the two of you continue to be a source of joy to each other and hope that you will update us every now and then.

If you want to help your Baby fly, the Parrot Wizard has a video of teaching Kili at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSwWNGJ_0Jk. Basically, after Baby is target trained, target her to walk between two perches, then move them apart so she has to hop, then move them farther so she flaps her wings for balance, and so on.

Take your time so her wings can build muscle without a fall.

Dear All, She flies. Baby flies. For about a week now. :-) She flew to my shoulder once. It could be my imagination but I think I detect a glint in her eye. When the rockets were falling here just a week ago, every time a siren went off and I ran to take her to safety, even in the early hours, she was very cool (talking about safe environments - parrot under fire :-)). Thanks. I will try and capture her flying and post a picture. You are all great!

Oh, that's great news! (her flying, not the bombing, of course -terrible, terrible things going on in the world!). And, yes, I am 100% sure there was a happy glint in her eyes, birds truly delight in flying!

The flying is really great news and you must be really proud of her, I know I would be and with bombing going on she trusts you to take care of her, that's so cool.
Sorry about the bombing, but I can't get them to listen to me when I tell them to quit playing with these nasty toys and talk things out like an adult.

Excellent about the flying!

Terrible about the bombing, but good that Baby lets you take her to safety!
