Pciticosis

Hi everyone. I've worked with parrots for 12 years, some of the rarest in the world, started feeling bad a few month ago and blood tests revealed I have Pciticosis. Bit gutted to be honest, but know the reason why I've been feeling bad for the last few month, it's not nice believe me, has anyone else had it before?

No. I had an epidemic of chlamydiosis (aka psittacosis) in my birdroom years ago but I did not get it even though I was in there hours and hours cleaning and medicating every day. You should get your surviving birds tested because you obviously caught it from them.

Yes they will all be tested, I read there was only 7 cases in England last year so makes me even more gutted I got it.

I don't know about people in the UK getting it but, apparently, it's fairly common for pet parrots to have it because I know this breeder there that had an epidemic twice and she lost so many birds that she ended up closing most of her aviary and only breeds parakeets now. And that's why it's always recommended to test every single new parrot that comes in, because asymptomatic carriers will not show any symptoms whatsoever during quarantine and you only find out when your other birds start getting sick.
