Hi from Australia!

Postby Scoutster » Thu Jul 10, 2014 11:33 pm

Hi everyone :)
I have recently bought a cockatiel after nearly 20 years of waiting for a bird! I had a budgie as a teen that I had a very close relationship with but after he died at 10 I didn't really have a chance to get another bird( no time, inherited a cat, had my own babies)
After meeting a wonderful ekky my longing peaked!! I realised an ekky was not the right fit for our family but didn't really want another budgie. My sons school provided my solution. One of the classes there has a bird mad teacher who brings her cockatiel to school everyday, as do about 8 of her students. They are all free range in the room and are friendly, cuddly little things and I thought they would fit with us perfectly.
So here I am with my Momo :greycockatiel: on my knee as I type this :). We won't be taking him/her to school though, even though it would be good socialisation for him/her, I'm not a wing clipper and don't want to lose our little friend.
He has settled in beautifully and is quite the whistler already <3. He also loves chirping to the tree full of rainbow lorikeets in our back garden :)

Looking forward to being here,
Scoutster :)

Glad to have you here and am looking forward to hearing from you often. It must be so cool to have Rainbow Lorikeets flying wild where you live and I bet that they provide you with plenty of stories because of their natural behaviors.

Welcome! I'm pretty new here as well. Congratulations on your new bird! It sounds like your child has an amazing class! What fun that everyone brings their birds in.
Looking forward to hearing from you around here.

Thanks folks :) yeah we are lucky here, it never gets old. I lived in Sydney for a little while and the birds were quite tame and we could feed them on our balcony but here they visit in a very tall tree so I can't get too close, they just make a lot of noise and poop on my washing :)
We also have a flock of cockatoos that love the pine trees in the local parks, you have to be careful as you can get a pinecone dropped on your head if you go underneath one when they are in it.
I'm going to sneak a picture in here of the friendly Sydney birds....Image

They were very friendly for wild birds, as you can see :)

Welcome to the forum. I know two people in Australia that have a flock of rosellas coming to eat the food they put out every day. One of them has named a few of them and there is one that knocks on her glass doors asking for their food -LOL-
