Pajarita, it's very interesting to me that you suspect Boo is female just from the picture. My mom has been considering that for a couple years, now. When I took Boo in I was told that he had been a male breeding parrot that didn't get along with the female. I can't tell for sure without a blood test. Boo also doesn't have a band around the ankle so I couldn't even tell you how old he is.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to put your RLA down. I think it was the right decision, though, with the pain and illness. 20 years is a wonderful time! It's going to be a hard reality one day when I have to accept the loss of my babies, but it encourages me to make the most of our time together. It must still be hard for you sometimes. It sounds like you had a wonderful time together!

Well, maybe 'he' did not get along with the female because he is a she - LOL- But, don't take my word for it, it's almost impossible to tell from a picture and, sometimes, it's even real hard when you have a male and female side by side. I suggest you have them DNA'd, it's not expensive at all and very useful to know because you need to give the hens a touch more calcium during breeding season.

I contacted a reputable vet within my city and they quoted me on service estimates for my parrots. I'm looking to take them in before the fall gets too chilly. I won't be surprised if Boo is a female, but it's going to be hard to kick the "you're such a good boy" habit if that comes up, haha!

Lady, thank you very much! They're very sweet, very patient birds. They always forgive me if I do something they don't like and are always happy to receive love and come out to play!

Good for you and better still for your birds! And don't worry about the "Good boy" praise, I have three females that get it all the time because that's what they know.
