Hi all, I am new to the forum. I have two parrots and would like to learn more about them. My african grey is about 10,lovely boy and loves me as much as I love him. Then six months ago I was asked by the vet to take on a poorly red headed conjure,we didn't know much about the breed but I'm willing to learn. I had his beak trimmed as it was so long itcurled into his neck. He's not fully tame yet but he's getting there.he only likes me and much to my surprise he has started to talk.

Welcome aboard ! I do hope that you have these two birds separated, and the Red Headed Conure in quarantine. The only reason for a birds beak to grow like that is liver or other disease, with a strong possibility of other being contagious. Do you know the age of the Conure? And just so that you know they are two different species od parrot and not a breed.
Doughnuts in the break room, sorry, I drank all the coffee again.

Hi thanks for the information. I don't know how old he/she is. I don't know how old and the vet had no idea. They didn't think he would make it as he was so beaten up. He wasn't long before he was eating and then I took him in to have his beak trimmed and he was OK, they didn't have to give him anasetic. He has no ring on. I have him in the back room in a cage with plenty of toys and he loves it. The African grey is in living room with me, they can hear each other.

Good thing to do, also check back with the vet and find out what he thinks about this bird health and what he thinks is causing the abnormal beak growth.

The first vet who saw him said he was just undernourished. After a month I took him to my local vet as the vet there is good with bird, he said he was a very healthy bird and he must have had contact with people as hecwas good to have his beak done. I will post some pictures of him and maybe I may finally find out what he is. Lol

Are these vets avian vet or just run of the mill animal vets ?
I don't know why this birds beak is so over grown but, I do know that it is not normal in a healthy bird.
Please, don't take my word for this, do some research on your own. It would be well worth your effort.

The first vet wasn't avian vets but the second one was. He said it was from total neglect. But we don't know where he came from , how long he had been out, none had reported a conjure lost. The second vet which was a avian vet said he was in good health and as I have had him quiet a while now, the beak hasn't grown back like it was.

Wow I bet she is lovely. I don't know what I would do without my birds now. When I work out how to, I will put pictures up of them.
