Gimpy will climb using his stump in the wire to balance when going for his next step. I have him in a budgie cage with the door open but when I find the other that is the same I will take a panel off each to connect them for more floor space. I have his and another couple of cages on the floor (not conducive with teaching him to trust me) but he sometimes gets too much company and he gets shoved out. His wings are starting to grow back and he can get 1 foot of the floor to fly. I will make platforms near perches to give him some equality.
I hope yours can fly or learn to.

She'll have a long way to go. She needs to build up strength, and have a good molt, or two. And if she has spent the last 30+ years not flying, who knows if she will ever relearn flight, if she ever knew at all.

That is true. Rambo's last molt helped him grow flight feathers. He can fly about a foot off the floor but can't get altitude.

I don't know about a ferret cage, Navre... they are usually made out of galvanized wire and that's not good for parrots. I think that you should be able to use a parrot cage like the ones they use for breeding but without the separation in the middle to make it wider (something like this: http://birdcages4less.com/page/B/PROD/B ... ges/PA5699). And, if you put ramps with cross 'bars' in it going onto platforms, she will be able to 'climb' and roost up high which will make her feel good about herself (something like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/167936112/ ... =related-0).

A cage does not have to be used the way it was designed. The cage like a tall one with storage space under it can be laid on it's side. Attach the bottom grate to close the open side. If you are adventurous you can make it balance back on the stand.

A actually have a cage similar to one of the ones you listed. It is 30x18x18, a decent size, but the bars just seem too flimsy for an amazon, even a small amazon like Tanya. Her foster mom says she never chews on the bars, but I'd rather have something sturdier.

If the ferret cage is galvanized, maybe I can have it powder coated at the place that powder-coats cages for the rescue.

Having it powder coated is a great way to deal with this if required, just make sure that they put a heavy coat on it.

The adoption of Tanya has been approved. I will bring her home on Dec 2.

I couldn't get her a vet appointment until the 10th. Considering all her issues, I wanted her seen by a specific vet. I hope it's not 0 degrees that day.

I am hearing that, you will just have to warm your vehicle up before she can go out to it coming and going, if it is that cold.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Both to her and you! Yes, warming up the car and making sure her carrier is completely covered with a thick something (I use a summer quilt which is lighter and easier to wrap around so the carrier ends up with more than one layer on all sides) and holding it close to your body, walk real fast to the car. She will be fine. I've done it lots and lots of times and none of them even had their plumage cold to the touch.

And yes, please have the cage powder-coated. I don't trust galvanized at all! But, I don't know how much she weights but my Blue Front girl is as light as a feather while my Yellow Crown is a heavy girl.
